Rose Fluharty Nutrition Β· Clinical Nutritionist Β· 5 Years in Business Β· Mariposa, CA
Rose came to the Queer MBA in her fifth year of business β a milestone worth celebrating, but also a moment of reckoning. She had built a solid clinical foundation and a practice she was proud of, but the business side had mostly been figured out on the fly.
She was navigating a big transition to telehealth, moving too fast to reflect, and doing most of it alone. Her pricing had no real structure. She had never built packages. And she hadn't created much space for herself in five years of showing up for everyone else.
"I needed to look at my whole life as a business owner β not just basic checklist items."
The biggest transformation wasn't a strategy. It was permission.
Permission to slow down. Permission to meet her own needs with the same care she gives her clients. Permission to reflect, untangle, and build a rhythm that actually worked for her life.
Rose implemented a Monday/Tuesday structure that helped her look ahead, break things down into Small Sweet Steps, and consistently move toward her goals. She started pausing to ask β how did that go? What do I need next? β and found that simple practice changed everything.
On the business side, she built packages into her pricing for the first time β not as a sales tactic, but as a genuine way to serve clients better and see them more consistently. She created a financial structure so she could see what she needed to make each month. And she increased her enrollment consistency throughout the program β more than covering her investment.
"Getting the structure in place with packages is really where I saw some growth."
"I would not have had the ability to slow down enough to really take a better look at where things are headed. I just don't think I would have had the wherewithal to create that space for myself."
And beyond the business tools β it was the community that surprised her most.
"Doing this in a queer community, I was able to really meet people that are also living a similar experience. That alone was worth every investment I made."
Having stabilized her counseling practice, Rose is now stretching into a new zone β bringing nutrition education to providers. She came in to stabilize. She's leaving ready to grow.
"I came to the Queer MBA entering my fifth year of business, navigating a big transition, and moving too fast to really look at where I was headed. Over four months I learned that meeting my own needs is just as important as meeting my clients' needs. I built packages into my pricing for the first time, created a financial structure that actually made sense, and increased my enrollment consistency β more than covering my investment. But what surprised me most was the community. Doing this in a queer space, with people living a similar experience, was worth every penny. I had so much fun. It is safe, it is real, and I am so glad I showed up."
